_Walking alongside Caitali as a Redfern Jarjum College Gamarada
Since 2020, we’ve built a strong relationship with the Redfern Jarjum College community through regular engagement, fundraising and hands-on involvement from our people.
As part of our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan, we’ve taken our commitment further by becoming a Platinum Gamarada Sponsor supporting Caitali, who began kindergarten at Redfern Jarjum College this year.
What it means to be a Gamarada
“Gamarada” means friend or companion in the Dharug language. It reflects a commitment to walk alongside a student, providing consistent, wraparound support throughout their time at the school.
For four-year-old Caitali, this means help with meals, transport, uniforms, and access to health and wellbeing services. This support helps remove barriers so she can focus on learning and growing.
Being a Gamarada isn’t just about helping Caitali. It’s also about connecting with her family and becoming part of the broader community.
Our partnership means we’ll keep in touch with Caitali, her mum Shauna, and her three siblings who also attended the school, sharing in milestones and building a deeper understanding of the impact that consistent support can have over time.
Supporting students beyond the classroom
Over the last five years, our support for Redfern Jarjum College has evolved from one-off initiatives into a more holistic, long-term approach focused on education pathways, wellbeing and continuity of care.
Alongside our Gamarada commitment, we’re also supporting La’Kiera, a Jarjum graduate to attend St Scholastica's in Glebe for 7 years through a bursary, helping ensure continuity through key stages of their education.
