_60 second interview with Erin van Tuil, Partner, Head of Sales & Marketing at One Barangaroo

What do you do?

I am the Partner leading the client relationship and residential sales strategy for One Barangaroo, Crown Residences in Sydney.

My team and I are working with our client, Crown Resorts, to bring to fruition Australia’s first 6 star, hospitality branded residences at One Barangaroo.

How did your career path lead to you working for Knight Frank?

I was at a turning point in my life where I needed to find ‘real’ job and get on a career path. I started my career with Knight Frank over 12 years ago as a receptionist in the Knightsbridge office and worked my way up to Partner through various residential teams. I have worked across Prime Central London starting in lettings at Riverside and I finished my time in London managing the Hyde Park and Marylebone teams. I relocated to Australia to help kick start International Project Marketing from Knight Frank’s Sydney office four years ago and was introduced to Crown Resorts via a colleague which has led me to my current role.

What are the biggest opportunities you see in your job?

I believe that Sydney is lacking apartments that actually respond to the desires and needs of HNW and UHNWIs; One Barangaroo will fill that gap for both domestic and international purchasers. One Barangaroo, Crown Residences is Australia’s first true hospitality branded residences located on top of the new Crown Resorts 6 star hotel in a stunningly designed building.  It is inspiring to see it all coming together and I am thrilled to be a part of it.

I am proud to provide not only Sydney, but Australia with a new icon. I hope to see One Barangaroo become as synonymous with Sydney as the Shard is for London and the Empire State Building is for Manhattan.

If you had a different job, what would it be?

I love my job and I love residential property – it is transactional but still involves the heart. I have seen some incredible property around the world through Knight Frank. If I was not doing this I would like to be running my own company but it would not be in real estate – having a highly regarded global brand behind you in this industry is imperative.

What are your favourite pastimes/hobbies?

There is no point living in Australia if you do not enjoy the outdoors. I spend time with my dogs, Orla and Cella, enjoying our local beaches and parks. I have taken up ridiculously long walks and last year completed a 50km walk for Oxfam and the 35km Bloody Long Walk. This year I am doing the 50km walk for Oxfam again and the world’s toughest half marathon, the Point to Pinnacle in Hobart, my home town. I will be walking of course!

What is your number one work mantra or advice?

Always stand up for what you believe, trust your instincts and do not panic – rational thought is a great way to solve a problem.
