_Have you committed your building to a Net Zero target?
The Drivers of Net Zero
The drivers of Net Zero Buildings can be viewed from both the standpoint of risk management and mitigation and opportunity. Among these:
- A recent Knight Frank ESG Property Investor Survey found that a majority of surveyed investors will be scrutinising the carbon emissions performance of their current portfolio and over half will do this for acquisition due diligence to see how the assets will affect the overall portfolio's performance.
- The approaching tsunami of mandatory sustainability reporting will demand audit-ready/reliable and consistent operational emissions data from owner and occupier real estate portfolios.
- Occupiers with net zero strategies will, in turn, be expecting information about the carbon emissions performance of their occupied buildings. Expect them to be more involved in your building's journey to decarbonisation and to harness the commercial opportunities that this can bring.
The 10 Steps to decarbonising a building
To manage your journey towards net zero we are pleased to share the Knight Frank 10-step process to a decarbonised building.
At our event the snap poll results revealed that most of our clients are at Step 5: determining a pathway (30%) or Step 8: implementing a net zero plan (35%). They also told us that access to quality data was the biggest challenge to achieving a net zero portfolio (65%). Our ESG and AMS teams are here to help you navigate the way ahead, regardless of which stage your organisation or building is at.
