_Construction Update: Crown Sydney, One Barangaroo
Home to a select few, Crown Residences at One Barangaroo will mark a new era of luxury living in Australia, with unrivalled hotel services and amenities from Crown Resorts. The ground-breaking building designed by Chris Wilkinson, co-founder of architecture firm, WilkinsonEyre was conceived as an inhabited sculpture for this extraordinary harbour site. The tower’s form takes its inspiration from nature and emanates from three petals which twist vertically as it rises from the ground plane.
The construction team has recently achieved three significant building milestones; installation of two rooftop infinity swimming pools (one for the hotel guests and the other for VIPs only), completion of the concrete placement for the podium feature stair, and completion of the podium façade. The tennis court, which will be available to both hotel guests and residents, is also starting to take shape.

Chris Wilkinson visited Sydney in December to see his design rise into the skyline.
“The building has a very special relationship with the harbour and it’s extremely exciting for me to see the strong sculptural form taking its place in Sydney’s beautiful landscape. For me, this has become a development that is entirely different from any other building in the world. This building would not have been possible ten years ago. We have pushed the boundaries of the latest technology to create something truly of its time and place.
“Observing how the building twists as it rises and knowing the intricacies that go into making this happen is wondrous. It means each of our floor plans vary on each level to suit the geometry and adjusted to maximise the potential of the views,” commented Chris Wilkinson, WilkinsonEyre.
Earlier in 2019, Chris travelled to Europe with other integral members of the design team, as well as Todd Nisbet, Crown Resorts, to source unique materials different to anything currently available in Australia.
“Seeing the materials we selected, such as marble from Carrara, Italy, being installed for the veil, and furthermore, witnessing our external and internal renders transform into real life spaces and Residences is simply incredible,” said Wilkinson.
With its Crown Melbourne and Crown Perth resorts, Crown has a strong track record spanning 20 years of unsurpassable service. Below the 82 Residences, 349 rooms make up Crown Towers, a hotel offering unmatched luxury and services to Sydneysiders and those travelling, coupled with world-class restaurants and retail outlets at Crown Sydney.
After 22 months of vertical construction, the development stands almost 240 meters above the harbour, with the building structure set to top out in June 2020.
The pace and quality of the property’s development is testament to the over 1100 men and women that Crown Resorts has brought together to bring this project to life.
Todd Nisbet, Crown Resorts, commented: “Our team continues to amaze me every day with their passion and meticulous attention to detail. Everyone on the project is proud to be working on what will no doubt be one of Australia’s most sophisticated buildings. Chris Wilkinson’s vision has already become an indelible part of the Sydney skyline and it just keeps getting better as it continues to climb higher every week.
As we advance the interior fit out of all of the unique spaces that are a part of this architectural gem our excitement for the project continues to grow and we look forward to welcoming all Sydneysiders to experience the property in early 2021.”
