With a client portfolio that spans some of the most luxurious and well-regarded hospitality brands around the globe (Rosewood Hotels, Four Seasons, Le Meridian, The Ritz Carlton, W Hotels and 1 Hotels and more), New York-based design firm Meyer-Davis is arguably at the apex of the interiors game.
Thanks to its bespoke approach to every project, not to mention its impressive suite of hotel, restaurant, residential and retail clients, Meyer-Davis was a natural match for the upcoming One Barangaroo residences in Sydney.
The highly ambitious and high-end Crown Residences project offered Meyer-Davis the opportunity to create the aesthetic for 82 luxury residences at one of Sydney’s most up-and-coming precincts.
With Sydney’s splashy harbour views and Barangaroo’s contemporary design on hand to inspire, we chat to Will Meyer more about One Barangaroo and other projects in the pipeline.

How would you describe the design of One Barangaroo?
Each of the unique floor plans and designs create individuality, warmth, and a timeless style that is tailored to suit the architecture of this one-of-a-kind building.
The residences are designed to deliver comfort, convenience and contemporary living with an accent of elegance. Each residence will be stylishly appointed with furnishings crafted from premium materials that reflect the contemporary style of Crown Sydney.
From state-of-the-art appliances to cool gleaming marble, and supple, inviting leather touches, the bespoke designs for each residence will create spaces that are opulent and luxurious.

How much did the Australian landscape inform you?
The materials, finishes, colour palette, and lighting is heavily informed and inspired by the majesty of Sydney Harbour. With this strong reference to place, the interiors will reach beyond to the exterior, wrapping the property in design elements that speak to the surrounding environment.
What trends are you seeing in interiors from a global perspective?
We are seeing a trend towards luxurious materials as well as an importance of the emphasis of timeless detailing. The expectation of residential luxury buyers is raised and you have to continue to fulfil that rising expectation.
As we push the boundaries of interior design, it maps out with the expectation of the buyers. We are seeing more unique metal finishes, hammered finishes and texture, a lot of sophisticated and unexpected pairings of materials.

What has been your favourite design project to date?
If I look at a timeline of all of our projects – almost 20 years of having our own firm, there are certain projects that have really defined us, each one for a different reason and from a different era.
Looking back at previous projects, there was a restaurant we designed called Locanda Verde in New York that connected with everyone. It all came together in a great location and put that style of restaurant as the way forward. We saw people recreating this design after we did it.
Where do you look for inspiration?
I love to get a feel of what makes the city tick and sense of why people who live there love their city. Whether it’s visiting an art museum, a local restaurant or just walking around the park and immersing yourself in these surroundings.

Meyer-Davis has worked on a lot of hotels. What is your favourite hotel in the world and why?
There is a beautiful hotel in Tokyo that would have to be my favourite called hotel Okura. There was a classical beautifully designed part of the hotel from the ’60s that was an immersive design experience, unfortunately this was torn down last year and a lot of designers were up in arms about this.
